Drones within Reach (Queens County)

The course will show how drones work, and cover how to obtain a licence, or avoid the need to obtain a licence. We will learn how to use drones to take great still and video images. The session will wrap up with an outdoor flight demonstration. Note that the course is subject to weather postponement because consumer-grade drones don't fly in the rain.

Course Facilitator

David K. Cairns

David Cairns is a marine biologist and Arctic expedition guide with many years of northern experience. David had his first adventure in the rugged north in 1977. He considers himself singularly fortunate to have been paid to gaze up at whales, sit still while a puffin unties his bootlaces, steer Zodiacs through bergy bits, sleep among the ghosts of great auks, and narrowly avert disaster involving a nighttime call of nature and a sleeping grey seal. He flies drones to map underwater habitat. He can't believe that he's actually paid to do this!

The instructor has a Basic drone pilot's licence from Transport Canada. He has flown drones for scientific and photography purposes since 2014.
