Course Details

DescriptionBridge provides an opportunity for meeting new people as well as adventure and mental fitness. This course builds upon the concepts introduced in Bridge Basics 1, students are expected to be familiar with these concepts. The focus is on play of the hand, making a plan, promoting winners, finessing winners, trumping losers etc. The initial bidding concepts are reviewed and new concepts are introduced. Week 1 -Review of Basic Concepts Week 2 - Preemptive opening bids Week 3 - Strong 2 club bids Week 4 - Overcall and advances Week 5 - Takeout doubles and advances Week 6 - Developing tricks and eliminating losers Week 7 - The competitive auction Week 8 - Jacoby Transfers
RequirementsBridge Basics 1 or equivalent
ObjectivesBy the end of the course the student will be able to evaluate their partners hand and formulate a plan to win the contract. The course will provide a foundation for future learning of more advanced concepts.
Teaching ProcessExplanation of concepts, use of visual charts, pre dealt hands and coded cards. Student participation and group problem solving. Practice play
