Course Details |
Description | This course will look at series of cultural presentations by various presenters
from different countries & faith groups in PEI to share their experiences and
reflecting the beauty of the culture they bring with them to enrich the
diversity of our community in PEI. The presentations are in the format of a
PowerPoint Presentation combined with pictures, videos etc. The contents
focus on reflecting the beauty of other cultures, celebrations, geography &
weather, history, language, holidays, etc., also what their cultures can add to
enrich the diversity of the cultures in Prince Edward Island.

Background |
Farahnaz is originally an Iranian citizen who lived in the State of Kuwait
and immigrated to Canada in July 2012 choosing PEI as her new home.
She works at the office of Immigration in PEI, facilitating newcomer’s settlement, engagement, and integration; and has also worked closely with the Association for Newcomers to Canada in PEI (PEIANC) for delivering resettlement programs for Government Assisted Refugees to Syrian refugee families. Her previous work and training with the High Commissioner for Human Rights Arabic Fellowship Program (OHCHR) and non-governmental organizations in the field of protecting human rights, and promoting the nonviolent transformation of conflicts made her a dedicated advocate for women's rights, human rights, diaspora, religious' minority’s rights, gender equality, and multi faith’s activities in cross-cultural conflict resolution in the Middle East. Prior to immigrating to Canada, Farahnaz has been an active member for various national and international organizations such as Women Cultural Social Society, UNDP, “Women without Frontiers (WWF), the Management Centre of the Mediterranean, and the International
Migration Organization (IOM). Farahnaz is an active volunteer in the PEI
community and deeply passionate about initiatives that support the
development and advancement of cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue
and interfaith inclusion on PEI. In Nov 2018, Farahnaz received the Top 25
Immigrants in the Maritimes Award for her contribution to the key
criteria of Leadership, Achievement, Impact in the local community,
Growth, and Development, Vision, Community involvement and contribution to social responsibility. Farahnaz is also a proud mother of two beautiful sons.
