Course Details

DescriptionThis course will involve reading a book and taking part in a book discussion. In another session participants will watch the movie based on the book. The last session will involve participants preparing lunch or snacks related to the setting of the book/movie, eating food and discussing the book and movie together. Each session will be 2 hours long. Session 1--introductions and book discussion Session 2--watching the movie Session 3--prepare lunch and eat while discussing the movie and book together Participants must pick up the book about a month or so before the first session to have enough time to read the book. The library will provide copies of the book.
RequirementsParticipants will need to read the book before the 1st session.
ObjectivesTo enhance enjoyment of reading, movies and food!
Teaching ProcessBook Discussion Sessions will be one hour long. The discussion will open with a round table where everyone gives brief comments on their experience with the reading. After that, a facilitated discussion will take place with questions to prompt new avenues of discovery. Often book clubs get off the book a bit with related discussions and this is fine. The discussion will be steered back to the book eventually. The movie session will consist of watching the movie The Lunch session will consist of preparing and eating food related to the setting of the book in the library's community kitchen with a staff member who has taken a food safety course. While eating lunch, participants will discuss the book and the movie together.
