Course Details

DescriptionThis will be an introduction to Astronomy - The study of the Night Sky, stars, constellations and other Deep Sky objects. Emphasis will be placed upon the rare event of the 2024 spring Total Solar Eclipse which will only be visible in Prince County for Islanders and which will not occur here for another 55 years. Participants will be given glasses to safely view the eclipse. If weather permits to view planets and other night sky objects in a telescope.
RequirementsInterest in understanding our place in the universe.
ObjectivesTo gain an appreciation of our magnificent Universe, the amazing events that occur, The origin and possible fate for the future.
Teaching Processlecture, discussion, hands-on -activities, and a number of handouts will be given to participants. Two evenings a week for 4 weeks.
