Description | A study of Dante’s Inferno, the first part of his Divine Comedy. Emphasis on discussion and personal interpretation of the poem, with background information and historical context provided by the instructor. |
Requirements | Interest in reading challenging texts. |

Objectives | To understand how Dante’s work applies to our lives today. To enjoy and appreciate Dante’s poem. To learn about the historical and religious context of Dante’s poem. |
Teaching Process | Discussion using “Shared Inquiry” model (Great Books Foundation) and lecture/presentation. |

Additional Costs or Information | Participants must purchase a copy of the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri translated by John Ciardi or a copy of the Inferno translated by the same author. (Other translations are also available, but it is strongly advised that all participants use the same translation.) This may be purchased on Amazon and is available in Kindle editions for those who prefer e-books. |
