Course Details

DescriptionToday’s world is an information-rich world and it has become a necessity for everyone to know about computers. This is a new six week course that will explore the popular types of devices in use today and some of the main topics in computing that will be of interest to seniors. It is important to note that this is not a typical computer course that teaches basic computing skills but rather one that provides an overview of computers, and explores related topics and skills that will help members understand, navigate and problem solve computer related issues no matter what type of devise they might be using. Members may bring along their own devices but the facilitator will not be providing direct instruction on any one type of device. The goal of the course is help each member gain a greater understand of computing and be able to apply that knowledge to their specific use. Examples of Topics covered: 1. Basic computer terminology 2. Different types of computers 3. Operating systems 4. Internet 5. Security 6. Cloud Storage 7. Social Networking (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) 8. Google, Apple, Windows, etc 9. On-line banking, shopping, etc 10. Tech support, etc
RequirementsAn interest in technology
ObjectivesTo create a relaxing learning environment that will allow each class member to progress through the course building on their present knowledge and learning and discovering new skills and uses for their device.
Teaching ProcessClasses are run by introducing and discussing computer skills and then practicing and applying the newly acquired skills.
